Alexandra Jantscher-Karlhuber spent a year in Australia as an exchange student after high school. This experience inspired her to choose to study languages. She finished her translation studies in 1983. Her working languages are German (A), English (B) and French (C). She has always worked as a free-lance interpreter and translator and has taught interpreting courses at all academic levels for almost 20 years. She occupied several positions within UNIVERSITAS Austria, the Austrian interpreters’ and translators’ association, and was president from 2012 to 2017. In 2017 she was elected as a FIT mundus Council member. CPD has always been very important to her and she participated in numerous courses focussing, among other things, on quality control, voice training and teaching competence. For the past 15 years she has been dedicated to supporting young colleagues and students through UNIVERSITAS Austria’s mentoring program. She has recently passed on the management of this to a new team. She has also helped set up and teach modules in various non-university training programs for interpreting, including Austrian sign language. Her other interests include listening to music, going to the theatre and taking her dog for long walks.
