An introduction to the new DGT system
The Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission, one of the world’s largest translation services, relies heavily on its external partners – LSPs and freelancers alike.
Changes in both our needs and the market structure resulted recently in our long-standing contract management system becoming less and less suitable and at the same time, DGT becoming a less and less attractive client.
How can a giant public body hog-tied by the rules of the Financial Regulation of the European Union renew itself and become a client LSPs and freelancers are again keen on working with?
No, it’s not (only) about the money…
In my presentation, I highlight the pros and cons of the old system, comparing it to the approaches used for a pilot project aiming the preparation of DGT’s renewal. I give you insight into operating different contract management systems in parallel, sum up the experiences of 15+ months and try to answer the ultimate questions: will it work? Was it worth the effort?
